Richard “Dick” Charles Sperberg

Richard “Dick” Charles Sperberg, age 81 of Shawano, passed away peacefully at his home on April 4, 2026.
Born in Shawano on December 10, 1944, to Adolph and Beatrice (Fahrenkrug) Sperberg, Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army as a heavy equipment engineer while stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he dedicated many years to the City of Shawano, working with both the Police Department and the Public Works Department.
An entrepreneur at heart, Dick later founded a recycling business alongside his beloved wife, Anita. While living in Wisconsin, he took immense pride in caring for his mush team of huskies and malamutes. In retirement, the couple traveled the country in their fifth wheel before settling in Mimbres, New Mexico where they embraced the beauty of the southwest. Dick was also a skilled carpenter who rarely spent a day without working on a project.
He will be remembered for his warm smile, wonderful sense of humor, strong work ethic, and drive for perfection.
Survivors include his loving wife, Anita Sperberg; his son, Michael J. Sperberg; his stepdaughters, Stephanie (Ferlin) Short, Leslie (Bryan) Schafer, and Becky (Shannon) Moore; his grandchildren, Kaden Sperberg, Jessica (Dominic) Maltos, and Bronson Schafer; his great-granddaughter, Adelina Maltos; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Sperberg; and his dear friend, Dick Kortbein, who was like a brother to him. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katharina F. Sperberg; his parents; and his brother, Larry “L.J.” Sperberg.
He cherished his family, friends, and the Green Bay Packers. There was also a special place in his heart for his beloved cats, Lilly (a.k.a. Rambo), Toby, and Sheila.
Service details are pending and will be announced at a later date.
