Jerome “Jerry” Moede

Jerome “Jerry” Moede passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 78. Jerry was born in May of 1948 to Bernhard and Rosella Moede of Appleton, and was a 1968 graduate of Appleton West High School. Over the years, Jerry continued his education, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh in 1973, and a Master of Science in Special Education from Winona State University in 1983.
Jerry married Korrin Moede (née Jack; 1951–2022) in 1972, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November of 2022. Over the years, they kept busy raising llamas, spending time at their cabin, and enjoying the company of their wonderful friends.
A teacher for many years, Jerry first taught elementary education in Blair, Wisconsin, and later at Suring Public Schools, where he taught special education. Over the years, former students reached out to him, remembering him fondly and sharing how much he had helped them. Jerry was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and rarely missed a game. He coached many sports over the years, including wrestling, Little League, football, and
track. He also played semi-professional football for the Manitowoc County Chiefs for several years.
Of all the places he knew, Jerry’s favorite place on earth was his cabin at Shay Lake, which he helped build with his father when he was just 14 years old. He could often be found puttering around the property working on various projects, or out on the lake fishing. The amount of time he spent untangling fishing lines for his children would have driven just about anyone else nuts, but not Jerry. Infinitely kind and patient, he always had time to help anyone in need.
Jerry is survived by his children, Erin and Adam, his three granddaughters, Naomi, Aria, and Chloe, his older brother, Dan, brother-in-law, Tim, nephews David and Jeff, and niece Sheri.
A memorial service for Jerry will be held at Tabor Lutheran Church in Mountain on November 7, 2026, beginning at 1 p.m. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com
