Sharon V. Simpson

Sharon V. Simpson, age 83 of Gillett, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026 with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.  Sharon was born on April 21, 1943, the oldest of seven children, to the late Alvin and Vergal (Seeger) Willert in Glenwood City, WI.  She graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1961.  Later that year, Sharon married Jon Simpson on September 30 at the same church she was baptized and confirmed in, Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Forest, WI.  The family moved to the Gillett area in November 1966 and made their permanent roots.  She worked for many years at the Oconto Falls Pharmacy until her retirement.  Sharon was a devoted homemaker and excelled at baking, canning, and gardening.  She loved flowers, reading, playing cards, and bowling in her younger years.  Sharon was very active in the Women’s Club and greatly enjoyed being involved in the Style Show every year.  She was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jon; three children, Jodie (Chuck) Woodke, Jeff (Stacy) Simpson, and Keith (Michele) Simpson; grandchildren, Logan (Ashlie) Woodke, Karli (Justin) Weaver, Eric Woodke, Jena (Mike) Luberta, Katy (Colin) Berkovitz, Bryce (Jessica) Simpson, Mackenzie (Cory) Dequaine, Skhyler (Lewis) Shallow, Hannah (Michael) Canela, and Grace Simpson; nine great-grandchildren, Marlee, Rhett, Rory, Daxx, Thaddeus, Della, Kolt, Layton, and Wesley; siblings, Twyla (Jim) Bakken, Vicki (Steve) Debler, Cindy (Eric) Caple, Dawn (Dennis) Handlos, and Craig (Diane) Willert.  She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Allen Willert; brother-in-law, Don Debler.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett (101 W. Main Street) from 9 am until the funeral service at 12 pm with Pastor Chris Byars officiating.  To get to the church from the West, take HWY 22 to W. Main Street and take a left onto the driveway next to the parsonage (105 W. Main Street).  From the East off of HWY 22/32, turn onto E. Washington Street to N. Richmond Street to E. Main Street, turn left onto W. Main Street and take a right onto the driveway next to the parsonage (105 W. Main Street).  Sharon will be interred at Wanderer’s Rest Cemetery.  Gruetzmacher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.
